Podcasts & Videos

Occasionally I get to escape from the writing desk and take part in some video and podcast work, some of which are collected here. This section is regularly updated so please return soon!

This is the third of my 12 podcasts for the excellent series of daily podcasts known as 365 Days of Astronomy. My contributions are adapted from selected chapters of my forthcoming book: The Big Questions: The Universe.

It was a pleasure to be interviewed by Richie Jarvis for his new show Under British Skies for Astronomy FM. We talked not just about life and the universe, but everything including travelling, books, SF, guitar music, the Sun, gravity, particles, dark matter. Hope you enjoy my ramblings – it was great fun for me. Richie is most perceptive – I do sound evangelical about astronomy and space!

In preparation for the release of my forthcoming book: Big Questions: Universe, I will be contributing 12 podcasts to the excellent series of daily podcasts known as 365 Days of Astronomy. Started for last year’s International Year of Astronomy, the series was such a success that it has been continued into this year.

I had the pleasure today of meeting BBC science presenter Quentin Cooper and appearing on his Radio 4 programme Material World. My fellow guest on that programme was distinguished solar physicist Professor Mike Lockwood. We chatted about solar flares, the extraordinary events of 1859 triggered by solar activity and the likelihood of it happening again.  #

The programme is available for a limited time from here

I’ve just spent a really fun hour with the science communications students at Imperial College, London.  Each week they produce a radio programme and today I had the pleasure of being their studio guest.  We talked about The Sun Kings, my upcoming novels: the CosmoThriller trilogy, and a blast from the past: my book Life on Other Worlds and How to Find It. You can read New Scientist’s review of it here.
